Gardening & Maintenance

Professional garden care to keep your garden pristine.

Garden care you can actually rely on.

A well-kept garden takes consistent effort, and most people simply don't have the time. Whether your lawn needs a regular cut, your hedges are getting out of hand, or you've got an overgrown garden that needs bringing back to life, Peak Grounds provides dependable, professional gardening services across Nottingham, Derby, and the wider East Midlands.

Lawn Mowing & Maintenance

Consistent cutting height, precise edging along borders and paths, and strimming around obstacles - we leave a clean, finished result every time. All grass cuttings are collected and removed, so you don't have to lift a finger after we leave.

For lawns struggling with moss, thatch buildup, or bare patches, we also offer scarification (removing the dead layer that smothers growth), overseeding of thin areas, and moss treatment. Nottingham's clay-heavy soils and wet autumns make moss a persistent problem - we know how to deal with it properly. Available as a one-off treatment or as part of a regular maintenance plan.

Frequency options: weekly, fortnightly, or monthly - whatever suits your garden and your budget.

Hedge Trimming & Shrub Pruning

Overgrown hedges are one of the first things neighbours and passers-by notice. We cut to clean lines, at the correct angles to let light reach the base and encourage dense, healthy growth. All trimmings are removed and taken away - nothing left on the drive or the path.

We work with all common hedge species found in Nottingham and Derby gardens - privet, laurel, leylandii, box, beech - and know how each responds to cutting. We time work to avoid the main nesting season (March to August) where possible, in line with UK wildlife law. For shrubs that have got away, we offer proper pruning and rejuvenation cutting, not just a trim.

Weeding & Border Maintenance

Weeds are removed roots and all - not just cut back at the surface where they'll return within days. We work through beds, borders, gravel, and patio cracks to give you a result that actually lasts.

Border maintenance goes beyond weeding: cutting back perennials at the end of season, removing dead plants, edging beds to keep sharp, clean lines between lawn and border, and mulching to suppress future growth and retain moisture. These are the details that separate a properly maintained garden from one that just looks like it's been tidied up.

Planting & Seasonal Tidy-ups

Spring tidy-ups reset the garden after winter - clearing debris, cutting back damaged growth, turning over beds, and planting hardy annuals or seasonal bedding from May onwards. Autumn tidy-ups prepare the garden for winter - leaf clearance, cutting back spent perennials, planting spring bulbs, and applying late-season lawn treatments.

We can plant up your beds with seasonal colour if you'd like - just let us know when you get in touch. All planting waste is removed as part of the visit.

One-Off Garden Clearances

Moving into a new property? Preparing to sell? Clearing an elderly relative's garden that's got out of control? We take on full garden clearances, however overgrown - cutting back, clearing out, and removing all waste in a single visit.

All green waste is removed and taken away to a licensed disposal facility. We don't leave bags on the drive for you to deal with. A garden clearance is also the best moment to talk about a regular maintenance plan - once we've got the garden back to a good standard, keeping it there is straightforward.

Regular visits or one-off jobs?

Both are available, no pressure either way. Most customers start with a one-off job and ask us to come back regularly - because once the garden is looking good, keeping it that way is the easy bit.

One-off visits
  • Clearances, tidy-ups, seasonal jobs
  • No commitment required
  • Book as and when you need
Regular maintenance
  • Same team, same schedule
  • Garden stays permanently presentable
  • No long-term contract or tie-in

Common questions

How often should I have my lawn mowed?
During the main growing season (roughly April to October in Nottingham) most lawns benefit from a cut every one to two weeks. Fortnightly is our most popular option for regular customers - it keeps the lawn in good health without the stress of removing too much growth at once. In late autumn and early spring, visits can be spaced out further as growth slows. We'll advise on the right schedule when we visit.
Do you clear up the cuttings and trimmings after each visit?
Yes - all grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, and other green waste are collected and removed as part of the service. We don't leave bags for you to dispose of. Everything is taken away and disposed of responsibly. You shouldn't have to do anything after we leave.
When is the best time to trim hedges in Nottingham?
The safest windows for most species are late summer (late August into September) or late winter (February, before nesting season begins). We avoid cutting between March and mid-August where nesting birds may be present, in line with UK wildlife law. If your hedge genuinely needs attention during the restricted period, we'll let you know what's possible - sometimes a light tidy is still fine depending on the species.
Can you sort out a garden that's completely overgrown?
Yes - garden clearances are one of the most common jobs we take on. Whether the garden has been left for one winter or several years, we'll cut it back, clear the waste, and leave you with a workable garden. We'll give you a straightforward quote after a look at the plot and let you know what's realistic to achieve in a single visit.
Do I need to be at home when you come?
Not for most visits - we just need access to the garden. We can arrange a gate code, key safe, or whatever suits you. For first visits or garden clearances, it's worth being available at the start so we can do a quick walk-round together and make sure we're clear on what you want done.
